I cut my teeth on street photography snapping candid photos of the people I met throughout Seattle. I would roam various neighborhoods or sit at Westlake Center and by the Ballard Locks talking to strangers collecting their stories and portraits while learning to use my first DSLR on the go. There, in the alleyways and sidewalks, I found exquisite examples of humor, generosity, resilience, and hope. I felt driven to record these stories before they disappeared without anyone having heard or witnessed. Photography swiftly became my way of talking story.
Moving my family from Seattle to the Olympic Peninsula in 2009 had a profound effect on my photography. Being drawn to the wilderness since childhood, I found the peninsula an abundant playground offering stunning spaces to breathe and find stillness inviting me to delve deeper.
My love of light, nature and finding sacred in the seemingly ordinary or even "ugly" drove me to take a closer look at the world around me. My employer still laughs about the time he found me crouched in a corner of the parking lot taking photos of frozen dandelions. The macro lens transports me to a seductive world of light and texture.
I have been an Event Photographer for the Port Townsend Film Festival since 2015. As a photographer, I have the privilege of connecting with a community of filmmakers and film lovers. It is a delightful, immersive experience celebrating the power of story while reaching back to my roots in street portraiture.
